Being a mom entrepreneur is a challenging job. Juggling multiple tasks, taking care of kids, and running a business can be overwhelming. But did you know that taking regular breaks can actually help you be more successful as a mom entrepreneur? Yes, you read that right. Taking breaks can make you more productive, creative, and successful. In this blog, we’ll explore why the most successful mom entrepreneurs swear by taking regular breaks – and why you should too!

The Importance of taking breaks

As a mom entrepreneur, it’s easy to get caught up in the daily grind of running your business and taking care of your family. However, taking breaks is crucial to your overall success. Here are some reasons why:

  1. Increases Productivity

Taking regular breaks can actually increase your productivity. Studies have shown that taking short breaks can help you stay focused and energized. When you take a break, you allow your brain to rest and recharge, which can help you come back to your work with renewed focus and energy.

  1. Sparks Creativity

Taking a break can also help spark your creativity. When you step away from your work and do something else, you give your brain a chance to think in a different way. This can help you come up with new ideas and solutions to problems that you may not have thought of otherwise.

  1. Reduces Stress

Running a business and taking care of kids can be stressful. Taking regular breaks can help you reduce stress and prevent burnout. When you take a break, you give yourself a chance to relax and unwind, which can help you feel more refreshed and ready to tackle your tasks.

Examples of Successful Mom Entrepreneurs Who Take Regular Breaks

Now that we’ve explored why taking breaks is important, let’s take a look at some successful mom entrepreneurs who swear by taking regular breaks.

Yvette Henry

I first heard Yvette on the How Married Are You podcast with her husband, Glen. I identified so much with her as a mom of 4 and being a wife that’s in business with her husband. I saw recently via her Instagram that she had a staycation. She shared how important it is to have time alone. I was so happy to see how her family gave her the space and grace to have this time for herself. I feel the same when my family understands that I also need time to regenerate.

Bozoma Saint John

Bozoma is always fire! I have been following her journey for a while now. Though she has an impressive resume, I saw how she took the time to rest and reflect without moving on to her next thing, which has been her trend. In her book The Urgent Life, she shares how important it is to live life intentionally. She aslo shares how she remains presenet in her daughter’s life even through grief, struggle and her many multiple life roles.

Jadah Sellner

I came across Jadah through a Nicole Walters Podcast. I was immediately drawn to her way of life as a mompreneur. In her latest book (which has become one of my staples) She Builds, I was drawn to the chapter on reclaiming your time and energy. I learned how to identify those energy drainers, and how to make more time for the things that energize me. It’s so important as a mompreneur to take the time to identify when we need those breaks.

How to Take Effective Breaks as a Mom Entrepreneur

Now that we’ve seen the benefits of taking breaks and heard from successful mom entrepreneurs who swear by them, let’s talk about how you can take effective breaks as a mom entrepreneur.

  1. Schedule Your Breaks

One of the best ways to take effective breaks is to schedule them. This will help you make sure that you actually take the break and don’t get caught up in work. You can schedule short breaks throughout the day, like a 10-minute walk or a 5-minute meditation, and longer breaks, like a day off or a week-long vacation, in advance. I scheule my international travel every 6 months. This will help you plan your work around your breaks and ensure that you have time to recharge.

  1. Disconnect from Work

When you take a break, it’s important to disconnect from work. This means turning off your phone, email, and other work-related distractions. You need to give yourself permission to disconnect and enjoy your break fully. This will help you come back to work feeling refreshed and energized. I know it may be difficult to shut down, but once you get relaxed, it’s all good from there!

  1. Do Something You Enjoy

During your break, it’s important to do something you enjoy. This can be anything from reading a book to going for a walk to taking a yoga class. Doing something you enjoy will help you relax and recharge, which will make you more productive when you come back to work. I love hanging out with my friends, or going for a drink at a lounge with my husband.

  1. Spend Time with Family and Friends

As a mom entrepreneur, it can be difficult to balance work and family time. Taking breaks is a great way to spend more time with your family and friends. You can plan activities that you can do together, like going to the park or having a family game night. Spending time with loved ones can help you recharge and reduce stress.

  1. Practice Self-Care

Taking breaks is a form of self-care. It’s important to take care of yourself, both physically and mentally, so that you can be your best self. During your break, take time to practice self-care, like taking a relaxing bath or getting a massage. This will help you feel more energized and refreshed when you come back to work.

In conclusion, taking regular breaks is crucial to your success as a mom entrepreneur. It can increase your productivity, spark your creativity, and reduce stress. Some of the most successful mom entrepreneurs swear by taking regular breaks. To take effective breaks, schedule them, disconnect from work, do something you enjoy, spend time with family and friends, and practice self-care. So go ahead, take a break, and watch your productivity soar!
