My Top 10 Business Books of 2020

My Top 10 Business Books of 2020

I’m sure we have all experienced what 2020 had to offer. For some of us, it was challenging. For others, it was rigged with opportunities. Most of the business owners who thrived through this unexpected pandemic were the ones who planned and who had strategy in place.

Now, I’ll admit, I don’t own a large corporation, however, 2020 was my best year yet in the area of revenue. In 2019, I started reading one business book each month. I’m so glad I did! The concepts in the books I’m about to share with you gave me so much clarity and insight. I implemented the strategies written and saw great results.

I want to urge you to do the same. IMPLEMENT the strategies.

It makes no sense to read a book and not implement at least one strategy that can translate to your business success.

This book really helped me in the areas of focus, studying, improving my memory, speed reading and thinking. I found reading the second half of the book first would have helped me finish the book faster! This is because I applied just one tip on speed reading, and my ability to implement the skill changed my life forever! Now, instead of reading one book a month, I can now read one book a week! A priceless skill for an entrepreneur.

I had this book for over a year and only read chapter one. I believe it wasnt my season then to capture all this book has to offer. Reading it through 2020 caused a mental realization that I would never be the same. I saw exactly where I am at in my purpose journey. This is so important to know, because your messaging must be designed to attract your ideal audience. I understood what my lane was and I remembered why I picked it. I learned that God strategically hides His plans for us inside us, and we must learn how  to unlock our untapped and hidden potential. Deep stuff!

Let me tell you, this book is the most detailed entrepreneurial book I have ever read! If you are looking for a step-by-step guide to form your company from beginning to end, this book should be your #1 choice. I changed my business model from being a small business owner to being a CEO this year (2020). This book has helped me greatly with that transition. I was never left wondering what next step to take. Every detail is included, which is why it is always on my desk. I refer to it when I move through each stage of my business development.

This is the second book that is always on my desk. I paired this book with 90 Days to CEO and they allowed me to pre-sell my new product with ease. Marketing is an important piece in the puzzle of entrepreneurship and understanding it should be your foundation. THis book breaks down the topic so that even the new entrepreneur can understand. Since I introduced my first physical product in 2020, I knew I had to do it right the first time. When you look at my Ultimate Mompreneur Planner, know that every design detail or marketing strategy was as a result of this book. I highly recommend it.

Everything I ever wondered about being a mompreneur was captured in this book. Finding the time for my business without feeling that mom guilt, how to choose what opportunities are the best for me, also when to say no! This book caused me to have less anxiety. I felt more confident in my time management and organizing skills. I went from chasing business, to choosing what made me have more joy! This is a definite YES for your library as a mompreneur.

I got these two books together after hearing so much about the success they brought to major corporations. I wanted to see what the hype was about. Now, let me warn you, these books are heavy on the research side. It challenged me in the beginning. I wondered why there were so many examples of these corporations. I felt as though it was out of my league. But with a mindset shift, I started reading with different eyes. I had to see what brings true success when I learn the steps that inspire confidence to seize new growth. I entered the paper Planner industry this year, and I indeed need a blue ocean strategy and shift. I’m still working through it, honestly. Let’s see what 2021 will bring.

If you are a mompreneur, then this book is a definite read! You often feel bombarded with everyone coming to you for everything, and feeling like you can solve everyone’s problems. This book will help you to learn where to draw the line, and how to respect the limits of others. This goes for your children, spouse, friends, family, customers and suppliers. You will learn how to think and how to train others to respect your space.

This is my current read. I love books that break down topics into step-by-step instructions. This book does that beautifully. I have spent a number of years defining who my ideal client is. I’m always improving and niching it down. With the pivot I made this year, this book has been helpful. Stories sell, everytime! This book shows you the critical strategies that top movie makers use to keep their audience engaged. I’m currently using this book to re-define my messaging and to draw my ideal inwards by connecting the dots with my Brand Script.

I’m an introvert! There, I said it! This trait makes it quite difficult to build business relationships that are necessary for greater growth. This book was recommended by my mentor Pauleanna Reid. I always wondered why it was so hard for me to allow others into my space, while it was so easy for me to go live or speak to a room full of people. I learned that that feeling was understandable, and I should not feel guilty for it. Like boundaries, I had to define what networking would look like for me. I’ve made recent steps to get better in that area.

I completed this 40-day prayer challenge, and it was more than I expected. I loved how each day had bite-sized readings that helped me get clearer on the power of prayer, and how to circle situations and people in that prayer. Those close to me would know some of the challenges I have faced over the years that were solved and were a result of prayer. It continues to be an important part of my entrepreneurial and personal journey. I would love to encourage you to share this experience with a close friend or business associate. The saying is true, caring is sharing (or vice versa).

So there you have it, my top 10 books of 2020. I hope you get to read a lot more in 2021 as it will indeed position you for greater success.

Let me know in the comments what are your top picks for 2020.
